Our eyes are one of the most important tools we have been gifted with. No other body part or sense plays a larger role in the way we perceive the world around us. Just like the rest of our body however, we need to take care of it to keep it functioning properly. The evolving world around us has not helped the matter either. With advances in technologies (Television, Computers, Cell Phones) our eyes are being pushed to their limits. The day-to-day strain which is being put on our eyes can have a damaging effect. Additionally, this problem is often compounded by other vision problems that set in as we age. Implementing eye exercises regularly is a great way to prevent eye strain and/or improve vision problems naturally.
There are several effective eye exercises that have been developed and recommended by professional optometrists. The majority of eye exercises are designed to treat eye strain since it is the most commonly diagnosed vision problem. These types of eye exercises promote: Relaxation, Focusing and Eye muscle strengthening. If known and implemented regularly, they can make a world of difference. not only will eye strain be prevented/reduced, but it can improve your vision as well.
I want to share with you one of my favorite eye exercises, which I implement several times a day. Since I spend a large portion of my day in front of the computer, I have been the victim of eye strain int the past. Using this exercise (Along with many others), my ability to focus comfortably over longer periods of time has dramatically increased. Furthermore, there was a reported improvement in my overall vision at my last eye exam.
Ne’er-far focus
This exercise will help to improve the flexibility of your eyes:
• Hold your thumb six inches from your nose.
• Focus on your thumb.
• Take one deep breath and exhale slowly.
• Then focus on an object about 10 feet away.
• Take another deep breath and slowly exhale.
• Repeat back and forth 15 times
Even if you are not currently suffering from any visual disorders, implementing different eye exercises are still an important preventative measure to take. But if you are one of the millions out there struggling with eye strain or other vision problems, there is still hope. With a bit of time and effort, improving vision problems naturally can be done. Take care of your eyes…you only get one pair.
