Gone are the days when wearing glasses was considered to be the ultimate in making you unfashionable. Remember the famous – “Guys don’t make passes at girls who wear glasses”? We had stereotypical figures in films, books, music videos, all conceivable places, that portrayed people wearing glasses as the ‘ultimate uncool’, the nerd! Not anymore.
Incredibly interesting and fashionable designs available today ensure that you end up looking better wearing glasses than without them. Just take a look at all the celebrities who wear glasses, eve fake ones, to up their style quotient and you get the drift, the sea change in style that we have had.
So, if you are planning to invest in a pair of reading glasses, go ahead a pick up some. When it comes to reading glasses, or ‘readers’ as they are more popularly known, people can be very fussy. Many people buy more than one pair, for the simple reason that they want to wear different readers for different uses – for the office, reading documents, or for the evening lounge, or even reading the papers over your favorite morning cuppa. If you are planning to carry them around, make sure you put them in a hard-cover case. Some glasses are even foldable, they fit nice and easy into the case, which makes it easier to carry, as it requires less space.
The first thing you’ll need, of course, is to find out, what power you’re most comfortable wearing – the one that enables you to see the best. This has to be the first criterion. A visit to the local optician should do the needful, or if you are too lazy for that, you may even try and download eye-charts, and then select.
Then comes the question of style. And here, regarding the material of your frame, or the design, it can be safely stated that you will be spoiled for choice. You can choose your frames rimless, or made of elegant stainless steel, funky plastic, or even, chrome-plated metal, which is very chic. It all depends on how to decide to project yourself, and also where you are wearing your glasses to a certain extent. If you are willing to splurge, get some hand-made frames, with special magnifiers to read small/fine print! These aren’t easy on the pocket of course, but who said style comes cheap!
Although glasses are mostly unisex today, men might still decide to go for cigar-shaped or even “Popeye” glasses, and women might opt for jewel-rimmed ones. No matter what you but, you need to ensure that they are durable and anti-shatter/anti-scratch. It is for this reason that it is better to buy branded glasses. Of course, you pay more initially (sometimes a lot more), but given the superior standards and durability of the top brands, and the kind of technical finesse which goes into making their glasses, you would find that you get more than your money’s worth, both in style and comfort.
Pick up some trendy pairs, and watch yourself become the center of all attraction. And of course, the envy of your friends!
